WordPress Logogate

Among Matt’s new year’s resolutions is to get the WordPress Community using the correct WordPress logo. He’s created a comparison image to convince everyone to use the right logo, but that wasn’t enough. Many thought the difference between the two was the color when it’s reallyl the font. So he’s created a new specific version to help you understand:

WordPress Correct font logo example

Color it whatever you want, but use the right base to start with. The font counts. When playing with the WordPress logo, start with the Official WordPress logos.

Also, WordPress is spelled WordPress not WordPress. To make this part of his new year’s resolutions come true, he’s written a script to force WordPress into WordPress across all of the 5 million plus blogs on . Instant gratification.

Akismet: Stats accuracy improved

We’ve improved the accuracy of the Akismet stats feature that was introduced in Akismet 2.2.1. You might notice a slight change in the total spam, comments and accuracy figures reported at the top of your stats page, and the percentages shown in the pie chart. The Historical Stats figures and time graphs are unaffected - these were correct all along.

There’s no plugin upgrade required.

Our overall spam statistics remain unchanged, and Akismet is as accurate as ever.

Thank a Plugin Developer Day

WordPress by itself is very simple — what makes it compelling for most of its users is the wide array of plugins (and themes) available for WP. The average WordPress blog has about 5 plugins installed! Today we just passed 4,000 plugins available in our plugin directory. (Which is also embedded into everyone’s WordPress 2.7 [...]

Donncha: WordPress MU 2.7

After a lengthy delay, WordPress MU 2.7 is now available. WordPress MU is the software that runs on WordPress.com and many other sites.

This is a sync of the code from WordPress 2.7 released last December. It’s taken a while but I think it’s worth the wait as there are many bugs fixed. Besides the merge with WordPress 2.7 there are also a few new features, including Viper007bond’s admin bar which is the most user visible addition.
Check the timeline for further info.

Upgrading from WordPress MU 2.6.5 should be as easy as copying over your existing install but please backup everything. Blog databases must be upgraded but that will occur in the background as usual.

I would really like to thank everyone who helped me bring this release out and offered me encouragement along the way. I’d name names but I’m bound to miss someone! It’s great hearing what everyone is doing with WordPress MU. There’s quite a community out there!

Weblog Tools Collection: Michael Pick Of WordPress.TV

On the evening of Tuesday, January 27th, I had the pleasure to converse with Michael Pick, an employee of Automattic and also the guy behind the newly launched WordPress.TV. WordPress.TV is a new website which aggregates all sorts of WordPress content in video form. The site has already made a name for itself by showcasing many of the videos from recent WordCamps. Here is just a sampling of what we discussed during the show.

Here are some of the questions we covered on the show:

  1. What is the purpose of WordPress.TV?
  2. How did WordPress.TV reach fruition?
  3. Will WordPress.TV feature content created by people other than Automattic?
  4. What do you plan on doing with videos that seemingly disappear?
  5. Can someone suggest a video that is produced with a language other than English?
  6. If there were any plans to let the videos be downloadable or even a podcast?
  7. Are WordPress.tv videos released under the GPL? Would love to use this stuff for company training videos

Near the end of the show, I let my curiosity get the best of me.

Plug For A Podcast: Plugins Podcast is a podcast which aims to cover one WordPress plugin a week with occasional interviews of plugin developers as well as heavy plugin users. Episodes range between 10-15 minutes and are in mp3 format. Angelo already has a podcast available on the pluginspodcast.com website where he discusses the CForms2 Custom Forms plugin. So if you’re a plugin junkie, this sounds like the show for you.

Announcements: This Friday will be Keith Murray’s last episode as co-host of the show. Please stop by for the going away party as we send Keith off to greener pastures.

Weblog Tools Collection: WordPress News for 1/28/2009

Not that we do not hear enough of Ma.tt and his history with WordPress, but USA Today had a nice article on Matt, WordPress and his fansMom says her son is so focused on WordPress, “Sometimes he forgets to eat and sleep. He’s a young man in a hurry. He never stops. I keep telling him to slow down.”

Also of interest, via a review on Mashable, is of a service called Errorlytics. It is a 404 redirect service that lets a website owner track 404 page hits, transparently redirect 404 pages to other content within a blog and/or website and possibly increases pageviews and SEO. They have a custom WordPress plugin for the purpose and the service is free for one domain and 5 rules. Now is it worth it? I will never use it because I do not want to depend on another remotely hosted service for my uptime. There are many WordPress plugins that acheive the same purpose and do it for free. There are many ways to handle 404 pages efficiently and with good results. This service might be useful to those who either do not have the experience to put other solutions in place or are looking to make use of the other features associated with the service. If you have Errorlytics installed, what did you think of the service?
